Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Regional Office VII (BJMP-7) confirmed yesterday, April 22 that 127 individuals from the Cebu City Jail tested positive for coronavirus, 114 of those are inmates and 13 other jail personnel.
Subject patients were already in isolation. Director Efren Nemeño of BJMP-7 also ordered an intensified contact tracing to detect other possible carriers for immediate isolation and medical treatment. He also assured the public and the families of the affected individuals that they will be providing a more focused medical care to the patients until fully recovered from the virus infection.
The task force is also putting all efforts to contain the virus, following the stricter health protocols while working closely with the Department of Health Region VII and Local Epidemiology Unit of Cebu City.
As of writing, there are one hundred forty-three (143) additional cases from Cebu City of which one hundred twenty-seven (127) are from BJMP Cebu City Jail while the sixteen (16) are residents of Cebu City. The total cases in the city are now at three hundred eleven (311). Lapu-Lapu City also has five (5) new cases bringing the total to eighteen (18) while Mandaue City cases remain at nine (9).
The "Dunol" and “E-Dalaw” programs are also back to its operation at Cebu City Jail – Male Dormitory. In consideration of the vehicle coding scheme, there's a slight changes on the schedule of Dunol dropoff. Please see details below:
